DENVER, COLORADO AUGUST 18, 2016
Energy Acuity LLC, the leading provider of energy industry intelligence, has released a new report that observes the United States wind industry in 2015. The ‘2015 Wind Energy Report’ highlights an increase in newly operating wind energy projects over the past three years, breaking out the number of projects by quarter as well as capacity (MWs). The top 10 wind developers are also recognized in the report, ranked according to the number of projects developed over the year.
“Energy Acuity’s research analysts conduct primary research to ensure project statuses and operating capacities are as up-to-date as possible, allowing our team to analyze shifts in project development over time,” said Maxwell Ryan, VP Research and Product Development. “Energy Acuity’s subscribers rely on our research to identify market trends and make informed business decisions.”
According to the report, the United States wind industry saw 9,099 MWs of new wind capacity come online in 2015. This is more than 8 times the amount of wind power that was added just two years prior (1,113 MWs added in 2013). According to Energy Acuity’s Renewables Database over half of the wind projects that began operating in 2015 had a generating capacity above 200 MW, compared to only 25% in 2014.
The top 10 wind developers featured in the report were responsible for more than half of the total operating capacity for the year. Energy Acuity notes that two companies, Apex Clean Energy and RES Americas, ranked in the top 10 after not having developed any projects in 2014. The rankings in this report are pulled directly from Energy Acuity’s own market share and rankings tool within their renewable energy database.
